Gary Bowerman

Asia-based Travel Economist

Gary Bowerman is an Asia-based travel economist, consumer trends analyst and tourism strategy advisor, and a conference speaker, writer and media commentator. As Founding Partner of High-Yield Tourism and Director of Re:Set Strategies, he works with destinations, travel organisations, brands, investment banks, management and strategy consultants, and marketing and trends forecasting firms across the globe.

He has also worked for the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA), as an Asia Travel Analyst for Phocuswright, an Asia Consumer Trends Analyst for Mintel, and spent two years as Editor of Shanghai Business Review.

In 2020, he co-founded (and co-hosts) The South East Asia Travel Show weekly travel industry podcast, and produces the weekly Asia Travel Re:Set newsletter which is read by travel professionals worldwide. His book, The New Chinese Traveler: Business Opportunities from the Chinese Travel Revolution, was published in 2014.

Gary speaks on Asia travel and consumer economy themes at conferences worldwide, such as UN Tourism, World Travel Market, ITB Asia, Arabian Travel Market, Global Tourism Economy Forum, Short Stay Summit, Worldline, Indonesia Ministry of Tourism, ASEAN Tourism Forum and the Halal in Travel Global Summit.

Described as "a leading expert on Chinese tourism" (Travel Weekly Asia), he is regularly interviewed by international media on travel developments in Asia, including BBC, CNA, CNBC, CNN, ABC, DW, CCTV, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, Nikkei Asia, Reuters, Skift, SCMP, Straits Times, and China Daily.

Born in the UK, Gary lived in Shanghai from 2004-2010, and has been based in Kuala Lumpur since 2010.
