Peter Fankhauser has over 25 years’ experience in the travel industry. Originally from Switzerland, he attended the University of St. Gallen where he graduated with a PHD in Political Science. During his time at university, Peter completed his military service, rising through the ranks to become a Captain in the Swiss army.
His first role in travel was at Kuoni, from which he moved to the German tour operator and airline, LTU, in the role of Chief Executive. He joined Thomas Cook Group in 2001 and in March 2003 took on the roles of Chief Product Officer and Chief Executive Officer for Thomas Cook Germany, before assuming responsibility for Continental Europe as a whole in June 2007.
His next role was a promotion in November 2012 to Chief Executive Officer for the UK & Continental Europe, this meant Peter and his family relocated to Surrey, England. Two years later, In November 2014 Peter was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer for the Thomas Cook Group.
Peter is committed to putting customers back at the heart of the company. He has overseen customer initiatives including a new 24 hour hotel quality promise, as well as launching two new Thomas Cook own hotel brands Casa Cook and Cook’s Club, which focus on quality and design for a new generation of holidaymakers . Peter leads a diverse team across 16 source markets committed to creating memorable holiday experiences.
