After obtaining her license back in 1994, Hafida Hdoubane became the first female mountain guide in Morocco. Now with 25 years’ experience, Hafida has trekked mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa many times, led hundreds of tour groups across the region and now even run’s ‘Women Expedition’ tours in Morocco: a full-on adventurous expedition, just for women. With female guides encouraging female empowerment and showcasing the traditions and routines of local women, breaking down those barriers of traditional tourism.
When Hafida first got her license, she was a novelty. Her colleagues at the time were all male. They were shocked about her wanting to be a guide and it took years for them to accept her. When they finally did, they realised that she was just as good as they were.
