Chairman and CEO, Club Med
Henri Giscard d’Estaing, son of former French President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, has been the driving force towards Club Med’s shift in repositioning the brand as a premium all-inclusive vacation designed to deliver moments of pure happiness at its 67 resorts located in 26 countries across the globe.
Throughout the years, his leadership along with Club Med’s recent acquisition by Chinese conglomerate Fosun, has solidified Club Med’s pioneering spirit by revolutionizing the All-Inclusive Formula through redefining experiences with new partnerships including Cirque du Soleil and turning his attention to rapidly growing markets such as China which is now the world’s biggest tourist market by client numbers, as well as in terms of tourist spending.
“Henri”, as Club Med staff all around the world affectionately calls him, has also focused his attention on continuing to fine-tune Club Med’s client experience through innovative new services and embracing digital technology as a key driver to enhancing a client’s journey – from the development of new digital resort apps to Club Med’s popular 360° Virtual Reality videos which provide an immersive tour of the brand’s resorts.
With an overarching goal to be the global leader of upscale all-inclusive vacations, Henri Giscard d’Estaing has fixed the objective for Club Med to open 3 to more than 5 resorts a year only in exceptional locations. Recent new resort openings include Val Thorens in the French Alps, Finolhu Villas in the Maldives, Dong’ao Island and Sanya Beach in China.
Prior to his appointment as Chairman & CEO of Club Méditerranée, Henri Giscard d’Estaing served as COO (2001-2002) and CEO (2002-2005). Beforehand, as from 1997, he was entrusted with the positions of Vice President in charge of Finance, Development and International relations.
